The Pope just called out mongers saying that those who frequent prostitutes are criminals. Seems like we had a good thing going on. Darn.

About 6 years ago, I spent my 1st trip to Olongapo at the Dreamworld resort, this turned out to be somewhat of a "faulty towers" experience, ranging from being charged for extra pillows, booking going astray, restaurant chairs collapsing from underneath guests through to a bar hop with the owner who nearly got into a couple of fights with bar managers and couldn't handle his piss.

I now see that the resort has had a "rebirth?" as the Subic waterfront resort.

My questions are:

-Does anyone have any current info on the quality of this establishment in 2015

- Is the resort under new owners/ management

-As I am looking for somewhere quiet and peaceful, does this place rate as value for money

i am hoping to come back to Subic Bay in August and renew my acquaintance with this little part of paradise

Thanks in advance

Sir, Dreamland remains the quietest and most peaceful of the numerous fine establishments in the area.

The "owner", who I believe was the infamous Mr. Wes Prentice, was probably the dude who operated Dreamland around the time you visited. Of course he did have one or two other foreigners assisting him while he was "vacationing" away from the Philippines at various times and I suspect they operated the hotel in the same fashion.

I believe Mr Prentice had to leave "rather quickly" and the ownership returned to the original owner, a local.

The Fawlty Towers syndrome is still there, but things have improved slightly. They recently brought in some newer TVs and spiffed up the the entire resort.

It is THE place if you are in the market for daytime extracurricular adventures away from Momma-sans and club management. Same for peace and quiet at night. You are also away from the road noise of the National Hi-way. Nice pool as well.

Subic Waterfront Rates for two guests as of May 2015:

Suite Room (12 of them) P1250 -- Reserve early

Premier Suite w/free breakfast for two(2) P2150 -- not worth it as they are giving you the same size room as the Suite and FORCING you to pay P900 for what usually is the worst breakfast in the area.

Superior Suite P2500 w/free breakfast for two(2) -- good sized room.

Jacuzzi Suite P4000 w/free breakfast for two(2).

Executive Suite P4300 w/free breakfast for four(4) -- not worth it.

Waterfront Suite (BULL SHIT !!! the place is NO WHERE NEAR THE WATER) P6300 -- 2BR w/living/dining rooms and kitchen. I've heard this is pretty nice. Free breakfast for six(6).

LANDLINE: 047-232-0003 CELL: 0943-700-8026 or 0908-868-0750

Website: www.subicwaterfront.com

I use this place often and have no affiliation with same.

I've stayed at the Subic Waterfront superior suite last year, it used to be alot less, like P1900 ish, including breakfast.  The room size was good and facing the pool.  But at P2500, not sure it is a good deal.  Their budget rooms are kind of basic, used to be P999, now they increased it to P1250, if you aren't too big on swimming (they have nice pool), I'd probably pass for hotels closer to the action.

Station4 and darkacre,

Thank you so much for your responses.

I thought that I would give this place a 2nd shot, I believe that it was Wes who was my "host" during my stay there. The peace & quiet is what I am looking for as I need to be able to also work and this gives me an opportunity to do so without distraction or highway noise.

Thanks for the time you have taken to respond, it is greatly appreciated

I knew Wes when he owned Arizona and was still drumming up investors for the Dreamland Resort and shopping mall and nice guy that he was, he could never hold his liquor.

I enjoyed Dreamland when it first opened up even though it was away from the action as it was a welcome change from Barretto and Baloy Beach and they were never ever full. I stayed there again in late 2013 when Wes had long fled left the country and the name had already been changed to Subic Waterfront. The place was pretty dismal then and in disrepair but I believe it has since been improved. Back then the walk up rates were a lot better than the posted rates.

If you want peace and seeenity, the spacious hotel is rather buried inside their gated property away from the noisy street. Trikes usually want P50 from the action bars. Jeepneys 8p.

Just an update for members,

I spent 2 great nights at the waterfront Subic with 4 friends. I had opted for the mid range suite at P1899, and as it turned out I was presented with the key to the room I had occupied all those years ago.

The room was spacious, and very clean, the bed had a good hard sprung mattress and the aircon was very good with good hot water pressure.

The pool area was pristine and the pool was maintained to the standard I had enjoyed before.

Whilst we did not sample the food there, we did partake of the Aqua bar refreshments, only  2 drawbacks that I picked up on and they were:

1. Beer was sold in cans not glass which was a put off

2. When staying at the main accommodation area and it is pissing down with rain, you have no option but to drown or wait if you want to get to the bar.

I made the suggestion to management that they provide a couple of golf size umbrellas in each room, for the use of guests. the shrinkage on these assets could be managed through their P1500 deposit they charge on arrival.

Otherwise aesthetically, I could not fault the place apart from minor maintenance in the form of painting the gutters as they were flaking.

At present they have a "Rainy Day" special on their basic rooms of P899 and this is spectacular for what you get. My friend enjoyed his stay there so much he went back with his family and booked 5 rooms.

PS: they did not appear to mind the consumption of alcohol brought in from outside (I had a couple of duty free bottles that were consumed) and were accommodating with glasses and ice for same

i hope the above review is of benefit to members

thank to all for your advice's
