@  samthedog : (23 January 2018 - 04:40 PM)

has anyone recently had any problems with immigration coming in . many stories on expat facebook groups saying people are being told last entry unles get a retirement or marriage visa

@  Red Horse : (23 January 2018 - 02:35 PM)

Anyway, the guy is flying next month. Can’t plan for tsunamis.

@  doctor who : (23 January 2018 - 01:46 PM)

I predict you have the same chance of your flight being canceled as a Tsunami in Alaska,,

@  Red Horse : (23 January 2018 - 05:44 AM)

I predict the chance of your flight being canceled are 00.00%. Why worry?

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:59 AM)

I'm from UK too and not worried about my flight back

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:58 AM)

So unless it is a big eruption & winds blow ash NW unlikely Manila will need to close. But of course it could be huge. Just don't take the Iceland event as a precedent!

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:57 AM)

More limited closure with the Indonesian eruption a few years before where ash did choke all 4 engines of a BA jet

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:56 AM)

So they closed western European air space for elf 'n safety reasons. Total over-reaction. When pilot got back monitoring flight showed near zero ash & air space reopened

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:55 AM)

The Iceland eruption close-down was a fiasco. Only happened because the ash-monitoring plane pilot was on holiday

@  statusquo : (23 January 2018 - 01:16 AM)

Stealth thanks for the update in the shoutbox helpful to all. You forgot the most important factor, amount of debris ejected. If the entire mountain explodes we all have a problem. There is no way to forecast how this will impact the planet but I must say the amount of global earthquakes is through the roof in the last couple days. I am sure scientists all over the World are crunching models of impact. I am surprised that "advisory" wasn't issued 10 days ago. Gotta feel for the people in the surrounding area.

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:35 PM)

Philippine civil aviation authorities advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ash from eruptions can be hazardous to aircraft.
•Check with your airline for the latest flight information if you are traveling to/from Legazpi Airport.

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:35 PM)

@Dunky , just saw this in another thread.....

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:24 PM)

@Dunky , you remember " Iceland " that shit close nearly all the europe airtraffic controle space for a few day`s

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:22 PM)

@Dunky , it depends on a lot of different factors , how high will the ash go , how thick is it , how many miles wide is it , what will be the wind direction , how long will it be hanging.....

@  statusquo : (22 January 2018 - 06:22 PM)

dunky intriguing valid question indeed. Wish you would have posted it in a thread for discussion. Any atmospheric scientists on the board?

@  dunky : (22 January 2018 - 05:05 PM)

and I'm from UK

@  dunky : (22 January 2018 - 05:05 PM)

I see the Mayon volcano has gone off. Is this likely to affect international flights? I will be booking my tickets soon for my trip between 10th feb and 3rd march '18

@  samthedog : (22 January 2018 - 01:55 PM)

hmm seems they only operate from manila I'm in bohol

@  samthedog : (22 January 2018 - 01:49 PM)

thanks guys will check that out

Anyone have any experience with going on a tour to various places around Luzon?  One place I'm wanting to go is to see Mount Pinatbuo up close. A quick google search shows two agencies/companies that do a tour up there but there is a big gap between the two in price (Php 2299/person or Php 11300/person).  Wondering if anyone's taken a tour up there or any other neat tours that aren't to far from AC?

The two places I found are

http://www.trekkingpinatubo.com

My time in living in the Philippines was very restrictive, we were locked down to the Angeles Area or just certain areas of Angeles at times.

I'm also looking at things to do there besides mongering because I might have my daughter with me some of the time, if I have to take her. Figure get non-mongering stuff done during the day and pawn her off on her mom's side of the family at night so I can barhop.

Capas ATV tour does the Mt Pinatubo tour also. However, trying to talk to them on Facebook is almost impossible.

Just wanted directions to get to their place of business in Capas and all I got was be there by 6 a.m. so I never booked

the tour with them. I would have loved to do it and if you can figure it out let me know because it looks like a lot of

fun.

Cheers!

Now the Subic idea sounds like fun.  I'm sure my daughter has cousins her age there to tag along.

Thanks.

I'm wondering if the Zoo is in the same place that the old Subic Weapons Storage facility? Had a not so pleasant run in with Monkey's there in 1991

Interesting...I might see some of the ex in-laws can find out info on it.  My daughter would like the ATV option versus a 2 hour hike, would be neat to do...the hike wouldn't bug me either.

I found another tour agency when looking at something on Google maps

I did the tour and signed up at the desk at the Pacific Breeze hotel. What I found was that the price is based on 4 people going. The first to sign up got the huge price and each additional lowered it. Basicily ( or close to) 12000 for 1, 6000 each for 2, 4000 each for 3 and 3000 each for 4. I got lucky and got on a tour where 3 people had signed up already so was cnarged the 4 person rate. I askd th eothers what they paid and it was higher for the third and even more for the first two.

I also lucked out going on a cool day with light rain..sun came out just as we got to the parking area, made for a cool walk. On a hot day, water is a must. Also, they make you have a guide and NO swimming in the crater. Being the clutz that I am, I waded in and managed to "fall" in.

I was wondering about that. Most likely it will be two of us.  So they let you wade in at least?  Sucks that the swimming ban is there.  What time of year did you go?

Nice!!!

A trip there & a maybe a trip to the Subic Zoo is probably the only stuff I'll do with my daughter if she goes. She will want to shop...but if you've seen one mall you've seen them all.

Night time or when she's with her Mom's family I'll have to keep my head on a swivel and monger without running into them. I'll hear crap from my daughter If she see's me with anyone way too young for me :/

i did this, January of this year.  I used Tripinas. They're out of Manila and they did them every weekend.  Contact was via email. You have to bring your own lunch and water with them. They pick you up by the Joilbee's at the Dau bus station at around 4a. It's about a 2hr trip to the base camp, that has the 4x4's. About another 2hrs to get close to the base of Mt Pinatubo. From there it's about 2hrs+ Hike up to the crater lake. (No Swimming Allowed when I went.) I think we stayed an hour at the lake and had lunch. It's an all day trip, you'll be back to the hotel by 9p. You'll need a good pair of shoes or boots, as you'll be crossing streams. There will be some climbing also.  It's not a walk in a park, I was sore for a few days after.

The tripinas websites aren't current. I think i paid 2500php for the public tour. Lastly, they picked us up in a van, full of other tourists. It was an uncomfortable trip to and from the base camp. On the return, we ran into traffic in some areas.
