Martial Law, stopped me in my tracks last night,, travelling between Mati, and Davao , at 9pm stopped at a road side Army inspection setup, everybody off the bus, walk through the inspection area then back on the bus, only to get stuck behind a military convoy,,

@  willie50 : (24 May 2017 - 05:41 AM)

martial law has not affected san Francisco and prosperidad on Mindanao at this moment. usually a lot of soldiers n check points

@  Pukpuk : (23 May 2017 - 11:57 PM)

@FurryFriend So you have experienced Martial law have you? Well I have and I tell you it is slightly inconvenient but not to the stage you wouldn't go there. FFS you love a troll or two don't you.

@  FurryFriend : (23 May 2017 - 11:48 PM)

http://www.rappler.com/nation/170754-davao-city-lockdown-marawi-attack Davao City mayor "urged visitors to cancel their trips to Davao unless [its] very important...[and] said that if they don't want to be thoroughly inspected in multiple checkpoints, they should not come..." That doesn't sound like a rocking fun place for a week-long mongering trip.

@  FurryFriend : (23 May 2017 - 11:20 PM)

Martial law means so much more than a curfew. It's about having mobility restricted, roads closed, stores closed, flights cancelled, and possible loss of conveniences like cellphone, ATM or internet services. These are all hinderences to mongering. If there was martial law in Pampanga, you can bet AC bars will all be closed. Furthermore, martial law grants the military ability to perform civilian law enforcement. It will not be a fun moment in the Philippines when soldiers with very powerful weapons stops you, asks you questions, then demands to frisk you.

I'm familiar with AC, but have never been to Subic.

Internet searches not helping.

A guest friendly hotel and I usually like to pay 20, 30, t0 40 USD.

Thanks folks.

Depends on where you want to stay -

SBMA, just a few places in your price range on Agoda, Booking, etc...

If Barrio Barretto (sp) and Baloy Beach, quite a few places. Just search "Subic hotels" on here and you should find them depending on your needs (pool, restaurant, etc).

Good luck

Assume by Subic you mean Barretto (and Baloy Beach) area, which is where the main action is?
Plenty of options, in your budget range.
I like the Mangrove in Baloy Beach (top end of your range).
Subic can give you info on the hotels associated with the 'Maze'.
There's also the Arizona (not sure the impact of Gavin (RIP) no longer being with us) and Mangos.
The Blue Rock management have upset a few people and the iCove gets poor reviews.

Plenty of info buried in the threads... just dig

The Pub, 1300 and up, (1000 if you stay longer) basic room, large bathroom though.

On Baloy Beach many for 1000 and up. I liked Sweetcorn, just opened, again basic, a diy style place, but with fridge, coffee maker, etc.

If you need higher end and more services then you should look at the bigger names around the area. Wild Orchid, Mangrove, etc. Mangrove had a non-beach facing room for 1800 last time I checked there.

I would suggest icove, it's very new and clean.

Nice swimming pool, nothing too fancy but great value.

NoGo43, Bostin, veveron, and jagpanther,

Thanks for the replies, I'll look at all of your listings.

Yes, I'll be staying in BB.

Thanks.

P.S. - it seems how to access the forums has changed and also, when I go to "Subic bookings" it seems a limited range of places appear.

If you want beach, check out Treasure Island Resort. It's the only Baloy resort with a first class pool on the beach. Plus, there's the floating bar.

If you want to stay in the middle of everything, I (of course) suggest Paradise. It's located in The Maze. It's a complex with 5 bars and the best Mexican food in town. Rooms are P1,600 to P1,900 before P-A discount. Plus, guests have free access to the TI pool.

Mangrove is my favorite hotel, but they have raised their rates recently, and may be above your budget now, unfortunately.

iCove is new and clean, and good value, IMO. Rooms are a bit small, but all have balconies.

Subiza seems desperate for customers so you may be able to negotiate a good discount there.  Also nice hotel.

From some off the comments on here has iCove recovered?
I recall comments about it had rapidly gone down him since opening, with a major ant problem as well as been full,of noisy guests.

I'd looked at it, but booked Mangrove instead (which I don't regret).

Back in May, and back at the Mangrove...

Icove appears to be off Agoda (problems ?)
Even if you search icove Agoda it comes up but when you put your dates in (any, I tried a few) those dates are "unavailable"
A pity that place kinda ticked the boxes I wanted for price, facilities, location etc.

Book on their site instead? I just tried it and it seemed to work. Usually the price is about the same.

I stayed at Mangrove in January. The rooms and staff are nice enough, but just so you know, there is no elevator. I had a room on the 4th floor, and it was a pain in the butt to get to, especially after a night of drinking.

I have to say, with all the money they put into the place, not having an elevator was a surprise. The owner lives on the top. She's a fitness nut, and looks like a million bucks.

Yes go directly to hotels sites not through Agoda.  Google the hotel name and also try to search them on facebook because if they don't have a website they might be on facebook.  Arizona has both as do some others and has a floating bar and nice pool and popular bar and restaurants right on the main road.

I Cove is much farther down away from the end of the highway with the most bars but they are not that far apart and there are plenty at both ends so some would prefer one or the other.  New place called Dennito also.  By emailing the hotels direct you know who replies to you and what you are quoted like a room size or bed size or what floor.  If you book on Agoda some Filipinos stare blankly at the page and you get excuses about it being an Agoda mistake

Book on their site instead? I just tried it and it seemed to work. Usually the price is about the same.

I'm not into pools. I enjoy looking at the water but don't spend time on the beach unless i'm under a palm tree in the shade with a drink and/or a book.

I am heavily leaning towards Arizona.

I went to their site.

I could not find info on if they do airport or shuttle pickup.

Arizona did do airport pick-ups, not sure if they still do. Case of emailing or calling them and asking.

I use Beeway from NAIA to Baloy Beach at PHP4,500 all in.
I know there are cheaper options, but I can't be bothered with the fuss; coming of a long haul flight, carrying dive kit - K.I.S.S.

Yeah, I know the price now from AZ.

Similar to what you pay. I'm willing to pay that if I'm tired and don't have a lot of time.

Cheers.

For my July "taster" trip I am now booked at Subic Waterfront, I was booked at TI but unfortunately read quite a few recent negative comments so with more positive recent reviews about Waterfront, I decided to stay there. I also reversed my stay to go to Subic first then AC due to the transfer times to the airport ( delays pick to fly to LOS from 06.30 to 0830). I have booked Beeway for airport pick up 4500P and transfer from Subic to AC 2500P ( cannot be doing with hauling luggage on and off), then for return from AC to airport 2500P.

Apologies to "Subic" who gave good advice about hotels and many other things, I will be using the "Maze" bars as I like the set up you explained (still cannot get over that there is no BF/EWR just negotiate with the girl of your choice) I have a feeling I will be spending quite a few Pesos in the "Maze".
