Yea , im feeling really Bad about posting it now, especially knowing how slow this shout moves on a weekend,,

@  bill44ca : (19 August 2017 - 05:43 AM)

That is just awful to say docwho.

@  doctor who : (19 August 2017 - 05:16 AM)

@bobby , Let me be the first to say RIP My old friend Bobby, didnt know him but i hear he was a great Guy, , Just in case ,, its always good to jump on the band wagon after the event,,Smile

@  statusquo : (19 August 2017 - 05:05 AM)

@bobbydown it's always a good idea to scout a place prior to moving in by speaking with neighbors and see how loud it is late at night to avoid the misfortune you have. Sorry to hear about it

@  bobbydown : (19 August 2017 - 04:31 AM)

i used to live in a hotel in narciso street but moved out because of the drugs usage dealing, so then we moved to balibago and now the neighbor is dealing drugs, not locals doing the drugs,

@  bobbydown : (19 August 2017 - 04:29 AM)

i hope my neighbour moves out or the police knock on the right door

@  newbster : (18 August 2017 - 10:35 PM)

kantutero, I have been too busy the last few weeks to keep up on news. Can you elaborate on your breitbart war post and body count in manila & bulacan? Or point me to a thread/article?

@  FurryFriend : (18 August 2017 - 08:56 PM)

MONGER ADVISORY - The drug war in the Philippines has apparently taken a sudden drastic escalation with police killing over 80 suspects in four days. While this shouldn't merit changing travel plans, it may be advisable to avoid high crime areas. The presence of police in a certain area should not be construed as a "safer" place. Go here to discuss: http://philippines-a...-war-on-drugs/.

@  kantutero : (18 August 2017 - 07:59 PM)

The War has begun (not the one with North Korea, the Breitbart war on you know who!) Poor timing for a trip to the PI. Speaking of the PI, the body count in Manila and Bulacan this week is truly frightening.

@  Las Vegas Mo... : (18 August 2017 - 05:51 PM)

News here has it up to 14 confirmed dead now :(

@  palo : (18 August 2017 - 06:28 AM)

The little island people usage is almost certainly a folk legend. Almost certainly it's just a shortening of "Filipino," and you can see other examples for other countries.

@  statusquo : (18 August 2017 - 04:42 AM)

@Budhah that's a no brainer to filter but gums the works on a few threads however it's fair.

@  Budhah : (18 August 2017 - 03:53 AM)

I thought it was used because it seems that so many wear those little FLIIIP FLOOPS,, But agree with not a good name to use on them, I was a moderator on a Yahoo site years ago, and sought to correct several "GITS"..

@  Smithy1971 : (17 August 2017 - 11:07 PM)

12 dead and currently 100 people injured in Barcelona.

@  kantutero : (17 August 2017 - 05:16 PM)

Major terror attack underway in Barcelona

@  Mactanboy : (17 August 2017 - 03:25 PM)

"Filipino" substituted by system for word FurryFriend used below. I am not a fan of any derogatory word for anyone!

@  Mactanboy : (17 August 2017 - 03:24 PM)

@FurryFriend: I am retired military and served two Philippine tours. Heard a few people use "Filipino," but never heard anyone use the four words you attribute to the acronym. In the 60s & 70s it was not widely used in my presence. LBFM was used across Asia by GIs

Evening all,

My first trip in April and I'm thinking to stay in Pacific Breeze, do any of the rooms have a balcony, in room safe and what's the policy on smoking in rooms please?
Feedback greatly appreciated.
Also the best way to organise an airport pick up?

Thanks

Might want to give PB a miss, they are apparently doing renovations there so i would not bother.

If you want to be still close to the action, try Central Park it's near the action and a better hotel IMHO.

Where are you flying into NAIA or Clark ? If it's Manila try AC bike rental Jim provides a good service, if it's Clark get your hotel to pick you up cost is between 350-500 pesos.

Thanks for the advice, do you think renovations will still be going on in April?
May just book for 2 nights and extend if all is ok as the reviews for PB seem to fit what in looking for.

Is there balconys or smoking in rooms allowed as can't seem to find any info on it.
Cheers

When I asked for a non-smoking room (through Agoda), I got the following from Milka --

As for non-smoking rooms, we do not designate our rooms that way. However, I can assure you that your room will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized prior to your check-in.

I also asked for a room with a window, in the main building ... and got only "We have noted your request."

Maybe I should re-consider and book elsewhere? Your thoughts, gentlemen?

My response may be too late for the OP, here's my experience. I've stayed at PB for five of six trips and found them to be a great value. Quality has ranged from excellent to average for a foreigner hotel in AC. Generally agree with the comments here so far, and I've obviously stuck with them.

The rooms have ashtrays available and are ok to smoke inside. I'm a nonsmoker, and I've never felt that the rooms smelled like smoking rooms. I realize that's not the OP's exact concern, but others may care.

Can anyone tell me if the construction is continuing there in the month of May?
Or is it completed? Also, please report on the *recent* quality of the wifi. Thanks!

I always go the the Pacific Breeze. People say the rooms are getting a bit long in the tooth. This is true. A rennovation wouldn't hurt. As well, you're better off in the main building as opposed to the Oahu Wing. There are no elevators in the Oahu and I'm a big guy. Plus, the restaurant, atm, front desk and pool are all in the main building. Nonetheless, you can't beat the location. They are literally two minutes from Kokomos and yet totallly quiet. I understand there has been some work going on in February and March. I'll leave a comment because I will be at the Pacific Breeze again in a couple of days.

The staff are friendly. Always smiling. You must understand that you're in the Philippines, not the States or any major western country. While things generally run smoothly please don't expect the kind of speed and efficiency you get in New York, Toronto, London, Sydney, etc. There is a laundry directly across the street from the hotel and it's cheap (please put prices in a western context). You're a two minute walk from Kokomos, or Tequila Reef or right onto Fields.

The WiFi is just Ok. But, the Internet in the Philippines is garbage everywhere. Don't expect to get Gigaspeed Fiber. It's not going to happen no matter what you spend!

They offer rooms with three person jacuzzis. As well, the poolside rooms have a private balcony and the Admiral Suite a large balcony. The pool is very nice as well.

As for security, it's very good. All rooms have safes and there are friendly security guards on every door. They phone your room and hold the girl until you tell them you know she has left. Say what you will about the morality of holding a person against their will but you don't get many runners/theft at the Pacific Breeze.

Their credit card machine always works. Regular magnetic stripe cards, chip & signature cards, chip & pin cards (I have all three types) work seamlessly. They take visa, MasterCard and JCB. I'm not sure if they take UnionPay, American Express or Discover. The lobby atm is on the Cirrus, Plus, JCB, UnionPay and other networks and I've never had trouble getting cash from the machine with multiple cards on multiple networks from multiple countries. They also offer a 10% discount for rooms paid in cash.

Their room prices range from PHP2,100 to PHP4,600. I've never had any issues with suspicious charges. In fact, this time I've prepaid via an online booking agency. In the past I've booked direct. They've never asked me for a credit card when I checked in and just gave me my key and said welcome. Pay us later. Yes, there are cheaper, newer options but I can't imagine a better location that is also so quiet!

I use their car service. It's PHP2,700 from Manila to the hotel; I always tip the driver PHP500. So, figure PHP6,400 return. Again, no trouble ever. The guy is always waiting for me with my name outside the Burger King in Manila airport. The drivers are always polite and drive safely. Yes, you can save a lot of money by jumping into a taxi and heading to the Swagman hotel in Manila and using the bus. But, I don't need the aggravation. When I get off the plane I'm tired and I don't want to sit on a crowded bus. I hear the buses are nice and air conditioned. I don't care. I'm a very big guy and I just want to sit in the back, avoid the BS, sleep, read, whatever. I'm not flying all the way to the Philippines to save a few shekels on transportation. Especially, when I'm going back to Manila in the middle of the night to catch my return flight. They also offer a car service to Clark but since it's so close to Fields on the rare occasions I fly into Clark I use a local taxi. I do use the Pacific Breeze's car service for my trip back to Clark. They charge PHP400 to Clark and I alway tip the guy PHP100.

It's a good hotel; the people are friendly; the location is great. 'Nuff said!

No one here had problem with the hot water in the showers?
I stayed once in the oahu wing....
Took running the water 10 minutes to get the hot water...
Found the internet worse than other hotels I stayed...
If neither of those issue exist on the main building I'd consider staying there again

You're right about the water in the Oahu wing. I only stayed there once and it did take ten minutes to get hot water. Here in the main building it doesn't take more than a minute or two. The WifFi is good as well. I have no idea about the nature of the recent upgrades but it might have had something to do with some of the issues you mentioned.

I had the same problem, Jeffjones, back the beginning of April. Room 316, "Executive Plus" -- that "Plus" room with its bathtub was a complete loss.

Thinking of Wild Orchid, next trip, depending on what price I can get.

I reported this on another board:

Sadly, the Pacific Breeze has decided that the Internet is no longer a required hotel amenity. I have stayed here for the last five or so years and they have always maintained a 20MPS line. But now they have decided to drop to a 1.5MPS line. Trying to access email is a pain in the ass.

The IT guy told me it was due to multiple guests abusing bandwidth by downloading movies, but it feels more like a money saving venture.

I do work while I am on vacation and this really sucks. Buyer beware, if you need a strong internet, you may want to skip the Pacific Breeze. Seems like when they opened the Central Park, the Pacific Breeze because the step child.

And this was their reply:

Not sure where you read that, but it is not true. According to our IT guy we have actually increased our total bandwidth, not lowered it.  Perhaps what you read is referring to the installation our new router that allows us to better partition the bandwidth.  In the past, we have had some guests set up servers in their rooms that hog the majority of the bandwidth at the expense of the other guests.  This new router prevents that from happening and ensure more even distribution/balance of the bandwidth

I reported this on another board:

And this was their reply:

Actually I'd be perfectly fine with the addition of some kind of load balancing. I have no idea people were setting up their own private servers.

What I can't tolerate is complete outages that last for a day or more. Last time that happened during one of my working vacations there, the front desk staff got an earful.

It does sound like they've received the message loud and clear, though, and we can expect their best efforts moving forward.
