A charge for service... :Who_Cares:
Seriously though... it really doesn't matter what it is since you cant negotiate it out. I know for sure its not a tip for the maids so be sure to tip them.
I also see "service charge" on restaurant checks. I have heard on several occasions from waitress friends that it was not tip and goes to the employer.

I always thought that a service charge was in lieu of a tip and was meant to be divided among the staff. I have heard of many thai places where it just goes into the pocket of the owners though.

what is a reasonable tip for the maids at the hotel? I usually leave 3-5 US dollars a day while staying at hotels in country depending on how clean the room is and what hotel.

I must say this was in the back of my mind when I booked with ABC. I thought Id splurge a bit and stay in a luxury hotel. But then I thought there must be hidden costs, places like ABC are for people who really don't have to watch what they spend. I am looking at the Savannah Resort now looks nice but not too over the top.
After reading your post, and mulling it over I cancelled my booking with ABC
