@  doctor who : (23 January 2018 - 01:46 PM)

I predict you have the same chance of your flight being canceled as a Tsunami in Alaska,,

@  Red Horse : (23 January 2018 - 05:44 AM)

I predict the chance of your flight being canceled are 00.00%. Why worry?

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:59 AM)

I'm from UK too and not worried about my flight back

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:58 AM)

So unless it is a big eruption & winds blow ash NW unlikely Manila will need to close. But of course it could be huge. Just don't take the Iceland event as a precedent!

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:57 AM)

More limited closure with the Indonesian eruption a few years before where ash did choke all 4 engines of a BA jet

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:56 AM)

So they closed western European air space for elf 'n safety reasons. Total over-reaction. When pilot got back monitoring flight showed near zero ash & air space reopened

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:55 AM)

The Iceland eruption close-down was a fiasco. Only happened because the ash-monitoring plane pilot was on holiday

@  statusquo : (23 January 2018 - 01:16 AM)

Stealth thanks for the update in the shoutbox helpful to all. You forgot the most important factor, amount of debris ejected. If the entire mountain explodes we all have a problem. There is no way to forecast how this will impact the planet but I must say the amount of global earthquakes is through the roof in the last couple days. I am sure scientists all over the World are crunching models of impact. I am surprised that "advisory" wasn't issued 10 days ago. Gotta feel for the people in the surrounding area.

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:35 PM)

Philippine civil aviation authorities advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ash from eruptions can be hazardous to aircraft.
•Check with your airline for the latest flight information if you are traveling to/from Legazpi Airport.

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:35 PM)

@Dunky , just saw this in another thread.....

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:24 PM)

@Dunky , you remember " Iceland " that shit close nearly all the europe airtraffic controle space for a few day`s

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:22 PM)

@Dunky , it depends on a lot of different factors , how high will the ash go , how thick is it , how many miles wide is it , what will be the wind direction , how long will it be hanging.....

@  statusquo : (22 January 2018 - 06:22 PM)

dunky intriguing valid question indeed. Wish you would have posted it in a thread for discussion. Any atmospheric scientists on the board?

@  dunky : (22 January 2018 - 05:05 PM)

and I'm from UK

@  dunky : (22 January 2018 - 05:05 PM)

I see the Mayon volcano has gone off. Is this likely to affect international flights? I will be booking my tickets soon for my trip between 10th feb and 3rd march '18

I have booked a room here between 19-26 November and would like to hear from anyone who has stayed there to find out if it's any good. I can't find a tripadvisor report on it and would like to know if it has a pool? Is it near the beach? Are there many good bar hops in walking distance? If you're booked in at the same time as me, feel free to get in touch too!!! Cheers bros!

It's s new hotel right in the middle of the Dryden /Paradise complex of bars. Restaurant downstairs and connected to six bars. You don't have to go outside if you don't want to.
Beach is within 150 yards across the hiway. It's new, with nice clean rooms at a fair price.

The rooms are clean and nice and the location is unbeatable. No pool but you can walk or get a trike to Treasure Island or Wild Orchid for that.

Minor bad points... The TV's in the rooms are cheapo small ones with terrible sound. I like to connect my laptop to the TV to surf the net or watch movies, so that sucks for me. The internet was down last time i was there, then it went back up three days later but was slow and wouldn't allow access to Facebook (something to do with the girls in the complex). I ended up checking out because of the internet. If the internet is fixed then its a solid bet.

Must have been an out of the ordinary problem because they pretty much have the fastest wifi around and it extends throughout all the Dryden Clubs. The last time I was over in Subic was the July 4th weekend and Smart was down for at least the entire weekend once we left Clark. My pocket wifi couldn't even grab a signal, but on the way back home everything was fine as we got close to Clark. Had a whole bunch of text messages, phone calls, and instant messenger messages coming out of the woodwork all at the same time. Pissed me off. But, as you know...it's more fun here. :)

I'm in town for mongering and prefer to stay on Barretto rather than Baloy...Its been a while since i've seen a room at TI, but i remember them as being a bit dated. Wild Orchid is better but is a bit overpriced for laid back Subic. It has a great pool area though if money is no object.. My honest suggestion for a hotel with pool would be ICove hotel on Barreto, The only real problem there is the lack of 24hr room service.

You'd better book ICove in advance... Less likely that TI or Wild Orchid would be full.

I had the impression that the bars in subic kind of quieten down early?...
What time does it get quieter?
I'm considering checking it out in frc, and the noise seems to be the biggest complain. I'm usually up till at least 2 a.m. So I figure that shouldn't be a problem

I stayed at Paradise in late August. The price is very attractive, and in theory, staying inside the Dryden complex seems like a great idea. You literally don't need to leave the complex if you have no interest in anything other than the girls. They provide access to the Treasure Island pool which is quite nice, if distant. Dryden Deli is also immediately available.

The quality of the rooms was on the low-end, and some of the girls actually complained (a first for me in the Philippines). Internet was completely unusable. The air conditioner, at full blast, got the room down to the low 80s. Lightbulbs were out, and I could not get them replaced by the folks at the front desk. Things like extra towels cost extra. It's not actually a hotel. These are rooms above the bars, but there will be value for some mongers for the above stated reasons. It's not a bad deal.

If you plan on bringing girls from outside or takeout from the Dryden establishments, you shouldn't have any problems. If you are hoping that one of the Dryden ladies will come by after she leaves work, guess again. They are terrified to be caught by management. This isn't the way I thought it worked anymore. Guess I'm naïve.

Be carefull with the rooms on the highway if you are a light sleeper, the noise of trucks and trike's roaring by all night can make it difficult to sleep. I checked out after the first night and went to the Wild Orchid because of this. For the sake of an extra $20-$40 a night  better off getting one of the cheaper rooms at mangrove or I cove, Wild Orchid has 20% off for cash as well I think. I think palm tree comes out at around 2k a night as well but I'm not sure what it is like maybe someone that has stayed there can elaborate.

One other thing I forgot to add, is the mattress is a cheap low quality foam one so If you have a bad back like myself it may be a concern for you, can get a decent room for 1500-2k in a/c but in subic it seems 2500-3k is the sweet spot for a comfortable room

For guys that are not fussy on a tight budget guess it has everything to fit their needs
