Martial Law, stopped me in my tracks last night,, travelling between Mati, and Davao , at 9pm stopped at a road side Army inspection setup, everybody off the bus, walk through the inspection area then back on the bus, only to get stuck behind a military convoy,,

@  willie50 : (24 May 2017 - 05:41 AM)

martial law has not affected san Francisco and prosperidad on Mindanao at this moment. usually a lot of soldiers n check points

@  Pukpuk : (23 May 2017 - 11:57 PM)

@FurryFriend So you have experienced Martial law have you? Well I have and I tell you it is slightly inconvenient but not to the stage you wouldn't go there. FFS you love a troll or two don't you.

@  FurryFriend : (23 May 2017 - 11:48 PM)

http://www.rappler.com/nation/170754-davao-city-lockdown-marawi-attack Davao City mayor "urged visitors to cancel their trips to Davao unless [its] very important...[and] said that if they don't want to be thoroughly inspected in multiple checkpoints, they should not come..." That doesn't sound like a rocking fun place for a week-long mongering trip.

@  FurryFriend : (23 May 2017 - 11:20 PM)

Martial law means so much more than a curfew. It's about having mobility restricted, roads closed, stores closed, flights cancelled, and possible loss of conveniences like cellphone, ATM or internet services. These are all hinderences to mongering. If there was martial law in Pampanga, you can bet AC bars will all be closed. Furthermore, martial law grants the military ability to perform civilian law enforcement. It will not be a fun moment in the Philippines when soldiers with very powerful weapons stops you, asks you questions, then demands to frisk you.

Hi all
I have to book accomadation soon for next trip to PI thru work and If they knew what i was up to I'd be fired straight away.
Last trip was only to Ac ony and was was thinking about 3 days in subic this time.
My ? is , is subic a bit like feilds or perimeter or a cross between the two.
I loved both areas last trip so trying to get vibe for the place. I have to commit to accomadation in either place soon so any
help or personel feelings about the 2 would be a great help.
If it is sort of in between then I.ll extend my time there.
Chhers and thanks

the bars are more like perimeter bars, the main difference being that they tend to open later.

bunch of great hotels and restaurants right on the water in subic, so if that's your thing i guess thats the main attraction.

If you are comparing Subic Bay to Angeles City in terms of bars it's actually got the Perimeter Road feel to it. Most of the bars are basically confined to one area on National Highway with who knows how many girls, must be a couple thousand. In my opinion, 3 days in Subic is perfect for your first time.

maybe 5 days then and do a couple of them twice,

There are some very attractive girls in Subic as the photos show, but overall the level of appeal is not that great for me---lots of plain (but very friendly) girls. Subic is nice for a few days if visiting and it just might be a great place for a stay of several months since it is pretty laid back, on the beach, and everyone seems to be easy going. Might even be a great place to retire I have thought but if you're going to PI for lots of action with great looking ladies then AC likely the better spot.

Except you don't have that many vendors compared to Angeles City - and they are on the beach hawking cheap necklaces and junk, not in your face with Viagra/Cialis - in fact I don't think I've seen one vender selling Viagra in Subic. Traffic is not bad at all compared with either AC or Manila and there are panhandlers but again, nowhere near the level of AC.

All I've ever been to is Subic (old US Navy days) but I really loved it. Beautiful water and the girls ain't bad either! I pretty much have to have a beach for it to count as a vacation though so I am biased.

Ok, shit river wasn't beautiful but it kept the Navy base at bay :)

Mainly a much lower proportion of Asians . Like a much lower percentage of Koreans than in Angeles especially.

Another is Cheap Charlies bar - if it is still in existence that is ?

Disadvantage too many ladies drink hustlers but then again i am not that familiar with how many of those types in Angeles either.

Another disadvantage - hardly no freelancers to speak of ( or worth looking at anyway) then again Angeles is quite lacking in that also.

I think that's a typo. There are 33 bars that have girls. Each has between 6 and 40. Let's be on the liberal side and say 20/bar. That would be 460 if everyone showed. I'd guess it's more like 300. More than enough for a visit - of any length of time.

Maybe so.  But for many punters, a lot of these Barretto girls are not at all attractive to the eye unless viewed through beer goggles.

I believe that generalization applies to every bar in the world.

It's a bit underwhelming imo. But fun nevertheless. How advisable is it to go hot local bars. Heard of some local place called Salome about 5 mins from Barreto.
How do these places work ?

Foreigners are welcome in most local bars. The closest I know if is Curacha (?spelling). It's about 1.5km North of Barretto. They have full nude dancers (about 20 minutes to get their gear off). I'd suspect there are similar places in Subic Town. Get ready for sticker shock.

I've never heard of Salome. Perhaps someone can fill us in.

Things are very quiet. Bars are closing. Perhaps a combination of things. Travel Warnings by most countries the major reason. Palawan a target today. sex tourism on the way out? There are too many competing safe tourism destinations. The 3 week on or whatever workers are gone. Us cheap Charlie's are here but are dying pretty quickly.
Maybe end up like la union
