@  doctor who : (23 January 2018 - 01:46 PM)

I predict you have the same chance of your flight being canceled as a Tsunami in Alaska,,

@  Red Horse : (23 January 2018 - 05:44 AM)

I predict the chance of your flight being canceled are 00.00%. Why worry?

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:59 AM)

I'm from UK too and not worried about my flight back

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:58 AM)

So unless it is a big eruption & winds blow ash NW unlikely Manila will need to close. But of course it could be huge. Just don't take the Iceland event as a precedent!

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:57 AM)

More limited closure with the Indonesian eruption a few years before where ash did choke all 4 engines of a BA jet

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:56 AM)

So they closed western European air space for elf 'n safety reasons. Total over-reaction. When pilot got back monitoring flight showed near zero ash & air space reopened

@  teedeeboy : (23 January 2018 - 02:55 AM)

The Iceland eruption close-down was a fiasco. Only happened because the ash-monitoring plane pilot was on holiday

@  statusquo : (23 January 2018 - 01:16 AM)

Stealth thanks for the update in the shoutbox helpful to all. You forgot the most important factor, amount of debris ejected. If the entire mountain explodes we all have a problem. There is no way to forecast how this will impact the planet but I must say the amount of global earthquakes is through the roof in the last couple days. I am sure scientists all over the World are crunching models of impact. I am surprised that "advisory" wasn't issued 10 days ago. Gotta feel for the people in the surrounding area.

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:35 PM)

Philippine civil aviation authorities advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ash from eruptions can be hazardous to aircraft.
•Check with your airline for the latest flight information if you are traveling to/from Legazpi Airport.

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:35 PM)

@Dunky , just saw this in another thread.....

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:24 PM)

@Dunky , you remember " Iceland " that shit close nearly all the europe airtraffic controle space for a few day`s

@  Stealth009 : (22 January 2018 - 07:22 PM)

@Dunky , it depends on a lot of different factors , how high will the ash go , how thick is it , how many miles wide is it , what will be the wind direction , how long will it be hanging.....

@  statusquo : (22 January 2018 - 06:22 PM)

dunky intriguing valid question indeed. Wish you would have posted it in a thread for discussion. Any atmospheric scientists on the board?

@  dunky : (22 January 2018 - 05:05 PM)

and I'm from UK

@  dunky : (22 January 2018 - 05:05 PM)

I see the Mayon volcano has gone off. Is this likely to affect international flights? I will be booking my tickets soon for my trip between 10th feb and 3rd march '18

The desk staff wre very unhelpful.
My room was rather run down and I did not like the food.

Unhelpful how? What exactly did you need from the front desk that was a failure? Just curious.

Personally, if they just leave me alone and don't hassle about the room visitors, then they are doing their job well! :)

The biggest game in town is Mo's Subic which owns several bars and a couple of nice hotel (Treasure Island & Kokomo's). The website is http://www.mossubic.com/

The Arizona is nice as well. Hope this helps, cheers!

I'm afraid that my review is also negative...however I must mention that I stayed during the rainy season in July and the property was virtually empty...no girls were working in the bar. In fact, no customers in the bar and no activity at the pool. While still slow, my friend was staying at Wild Orchid and there was at least a little activity there. The rooms were average at best...the staff ok, but not friendly...and nothing around once you walk out the property gates. While my first impression of the bars in Subic was not good...I have to admit that my experiences with the girls was good...and I would return again...to Subic(or whatever the name of the town is...Olongo-something)...not to Arizona's.

However, from reading other posts it seems that Arizona's comes alive at other times of the year.

Yeah, I have also heard the Arizona is rocking at times and I actually know Gavin, the guy that runs it. I declined to stay there the last time opting for Kokomo's instead which I wasn't really impressed with either. The place was pretty much dead as you experienced and the bars were virtually empty. I am sure that is not the case this weekend as they are having a huge pool party at Treasure Island.

Also, I didn't really see that many girls in general and the ones I did see looked OK, nothing to write home to Mom about. I didn't care as I brought my GF. Then again, I was only there for a day so it could have been one of the "off" nights that happen every now and then. I will be going back

Thanks again gentlemen. Since they don't have a Clark - Bangkok flight when I need it. I thought I'd get a little closer to MNL and check out Subic for a night. Dead or not, at least they've got a beach, & I bet I can hunt up a nugget somewhere. wj

People should recognise that local staff are not travel agents. If your too lazy to research your transport, accom., bars, activities etc through GOOGLE then stiff s**t. I'm visiting AC and Subic Bay this June and through my research on this website and others I know my accom. I'm intending to stay at, which bars to visit, activities to indulge in (golf etc), where to eat (breakfast and dinner), exchanging money etc etc etc. GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND

Stayed at Arizona a few times. It was OK, quite noisy early in the morning as families tend to stay there and the kids are racing around about 6am!!!!
I understand it has improved under the new management, and I will probably stay there a night or two in June. Arizona has its own bar (Scores) attached with maybe 10-15 girls.
They used to serve a very good breakfast there.

Never stayed in Arizona, though I did check out the standard rooms, and feel the rooms are dated, including the pillows and mattress. I suppose one may argue that for the price of php1500, you get what you pay for. I disagree though. Agreed they have new management, and met some of them. I have been told there have been improvements since the takeover, validated by people who have stayed in the hotel a number of times. I suppose the convenience of the location, score bar (heard good things, but was bad in Feb), the floating bar which was really fun, and best of all the restaurant. Comparing with a few places in subic, I personally found the food the best in Arizona. IMHO, i think they have what it takes to be a great place in Subic for mongers, they just have to improve the interior of the rooms while maintaining the price.

We have booked rooms at the Arizona for our next trip to Subic. We made the booking directly with the hotel. We also booked transportation from Manila (4500.-).

The service from the hotel regarding the stay, transportation and other have been very good. :001_Thank_You5:

We are looking forward to our stay at this hotel.

Thought Arizona was`ok for the price , whats good , the reception, the food good enough and not expensive, but they have a cheeky little waitress who hovers a touch to much, who puts her arm around your shoulder while you check the menue, who says odd stuff like mission acomplished after shes served your food, could not decide if she was anoying or just to funny for words, but service in the restaraunt was fast and all the other staff very polite, room was a little old style looking clean but a little well worn , not good noisy as hell window air con, not enough lights to read in my room.the Indoor pool odly its in the restaurant and I never saw anybody use the pool, probably because people are sitting around the pool eating there meals,

The bar was good for sports but very small stage and jolly bee or older gals ment it was never busy the times i popped in there, but the bars all seemed very quite down there tales of never been so quite, by local expats we heard, , very good was the hot water all the time was good and hot at Arizona , a big anoyance and let down very negative from my point of view they asked 40 peso per night for an extra pillow thats daft, and a customer might not use the hotel again if that 40 peso a night extra pillow charge nonesense carries on in the future was my thoughts, I will probably not bother staying there next time if its the same petty policy, just my principle, really anoying most folk need two pillows anyway, also no food or drinks apart from whats bought from the hotel can be consumed in your room , well good if Arizona sold everything you might desire to eat or drink but they do not..

I tried the Blue Rock hotel to compare as well, restaraunt seemed busier than Arizonas we noticed the restaraunt was packed out all meal times, food though was about equal I thought either places you cant go wrong for the money and I will look forward`to staying again at the Arizona but please 40 peso a night for an extra pillow come on how silly and petty and anoying for most quests I Imagine is that..

Apart from the two hotels mentioned and both had very good food , in my opinon some of the the best food we found with a huge choice and huge portions was at sit n bull restaraunt locals hang out there a good sign and its very popular after trying it I can see `why ..

I would agree breakfasts are still very good, as in fact all the food was very decent ..

I would have to give Arizona resort a positive review.
Yes of course it is girl friendly.
They have a inhouse bar Scores.
The staff is very helpful.

The food is good.

The accommodation are on par with the rest of the places in the area.
Keep in mind that unless you go to baloy, the barrio area is a little old.

Its not a 5 star or even 4 star hotel, but it isn't bad.
Price is on par with the rest of the area.

Would I stay here again?
It all depends on who I am going with.
It is a good place to hang out, as the Scores bar opens at 2pm.
I like to start drinking around noon, and the rest of the bars don't open ill around 7pm.
So make sure you have plans otherwise you will be waiting for the bars to open.

Would I eat there again?
Yes, the food was great.

Stayed at the Arizona last June for 3 nights. I agree with previous comments describing the rooms as aged. My perception was, for the price, it was comparable or better for what is available in Subic. I had no problem with the food, the service, and found the management friendly and helpful. I also enjoyed being able to walk out the back and straight in to the bay for a swim and cool down. Used the swimming pool (although small) a couple of times just to chill out and keep cool. Having the Score Bar with pool table on-site was convenient, which we used as our kick-off bar each night. Kokomos daily shuttle van (from AC) drops off and picks up from here which is also convenient.

I stayed at Arizona earlier this year. The room was clean and comfortable, the food was good and the staff friendly.
Scores Bar was entertaining as well..actually can not complain about the place.

Cheers
